Hola amigos del Internet!!
The day has come… this is the last Monday of the summer.
Some of you might be sad, but for me, it’s the light at the end of the tunnel lol.
I know it sounds dramatic—that was the whole point.
So, tomorrow, my first summer in SunshineLand finishes. And I don’t have many stars for this review. It is not completely fair to this place because, as some of you know, I don’t like summer.
But you also know that I’m not a complainer but a praiser, so here’s the list of the things that I did appreciate about summer this year:
My garden. I wanna say I learned how to have a garden, but it is more like I adopted plants people didn’t want anymore, bought some, and brought some from my previous and beloved tiny town, and I kinda gave them life again. Some of them were quite dead when I got them, and now they are thriving. How? Pure grace, I guess. Love and magic made it all, ’cause I know nothing about plants, but somehow they are happy with us. Now I have super sweet tomatoes, peppers, herbs, flowers, and tons of green in our home.
More Clamatos. Hubby makes the best Clamato in the whole Universe. At least, it is my favorite. I don’t even pour beer in it because the flavor is so, so perfect that I don’t want to mess with it. So, with this not-lovely weather, I can drink more Clamatos than usual, and I’ve been enjoying my summer drink almost every day.
The light. I don’t like how the sun feels on my skin, the sweat, and the overall heat, but I do appreciate the light summer has brought. The spaces in the house are bright. I’ve had more natural light to paint and to actually see better, lol. “I’m a vampire,” but I’m also an artist who needs light. So the ambiance at night gets super pretty, smooth, romantic, and sweet. So beautiful that I got inspired and I’m painting a watercolor called “Summer Nights.”
The books. I’ve been doing really good with reading for maybe the last four years. But in summer, I’ve done great. As I’m not human enough to be outside, I’ve been reading more inside the house and having tea with hubby as if we were 108 years old.
The birds, the squirrels, and the lizards. No, it is not the name of a book. It is the animal kingdom I feed in our garden. I’ve been discovering which food is more appropriate for each bird I’ve seen landing in our backyard, but I cannot keep track—there are a lot of different birds. So I investigated, and I found two kinds that these cute birdies love. I got an app to identify birds, and I love it, but I came up with my own names because it’s easier for me, like the informants, the punk bird, la cardenala, and a few more.
I’m feeding the squirrels too—well, they also steal from the birds. I prepare food for the hummingbirds. They are so tiny! I remember the ones in the tiny town being chubbier; these ones are petite and cute. They have made the backyard their safe place, and I feel honored.
One day, I found a teeny tiny pink animal in the kitchen sink. She was hurt; a piece of her tail was gone. With all the eeww I got from grabbing a squishy pink living thing, I took her out of the sink and laid her in a little plate under a tree in the garden. She’s still around, I can tell, because her tail is still cut off, but the other day I saw what I think is a new piece of it. She has a pool with rocks and leaves to rest on, and I think she feels at home here.
The sunroom. This is actually the star of the summer. Even though I cannot really sit and meditate in my nook there for now, the plants looove it. They are the happiest there, and I love to host a nice place for them. My moment there is in another season.
I know this is not the longest list of praises you have read, but I’m getting somewhere.
Summer is still not my favorite season, but I’m on my way to accepting it, finding good stuff about it, and not feeling like I’m dying.
So I’m giving love and care to the summer in order to feel better with it.
What do you do when you don’t like something, but you can’t change it?
As always, all my love to you, amigos.
